You can't get in the driver's side without ducking them (this is why I don't drive!). I hate to use chemicals, but will that kill them permanently? We have a really weird situation - a layer between house and driveway, maybe two feet wide, that is bricked, but open, so the weeds grow through. We'd like to clear that area of the bricks and plant real flowers (well, supposedly there are some herbs in there somewhere, but who can find them). I can't do gardening work because of the sun, and I don't see my husband or BIL dealing with it, so I guess we'll have to wait until we can hire someone to maintain it properly on a weekly basis, and we'll have to hire a landscaper to redo it. It just looks so awful right now, I am really embarrassed. But if you can't kill the weeds permanently, then maybe we can't do that? I am sooo ignorant about plant things, despite my garden club mother.

I guess maybe you guys live too far away to feel the brunt of a 3.8 quake, since it isn't really a big one. I'm still so freaked out about a major quake. I wish I could control that fear.melusinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04096116965055620488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-70871313615669954472008-09-11T15:21:00.000+03:002008-09-11T15:21:00.000+03:00and i'm so glad the weather is changing here too -...and i'm so glad the weather is changing here too - if somewhat more slowly than where you are...Maria Verivakihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10440852486788630957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-20681125709538816212008-09-11T10:42:00.000+03:002008-09-11T10:42:00.000+03:00IF YOU ENJOY NATURE PHOTOS, YOU CAN TAKE PART IN M...IF YOU ENJOY NATURE PHOTOS, YOU CAN TAKE PART IN MEMES LIKE CAMERA CRITTERS, FLOWER THEMSES, ETC
I SORT OF LIKE DOING THIS FOR MY OTHER BLOG...Maria Verivakihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10440852486788630957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-66501814654588275142008-09-11T08:47:00.000+03:002008-09-11T08:47:00.000+03:00Philip- I agree, I love to take pics of flowers. ...Philip- I agree, I love to take pics of flowers.

Mel- The weather has really changed and we're enjoying the yard more. Regarding weeds...it's really hard to control them here, especially if you don't use chemicals. Our garden is full of them. In the beginning I tried to maintain the garden by weeding regularly and I finally just gave up as it was way too much work for me with the kids running around. As far as between the olive trees-we'll till and that's how we take care of them.
Now the earthquake-I didn't feel a thing. Kosta and I were up talking and Gigi started barking insanely. We finished our conversation and I started reading my favorite blogs when I noticed that Teacher Dude posted about it within an hour of it happening. Then it made sense...that must have been why Gigi was barking. But, we didn't feel anything. Weird. It is scary though and I would have been freaked out if I would've felt it.

John- Bees seem to have an interest in me & Foti. I've been stung 3x in the last few years and Foti was stung 3x this summer. I'll check out the hornets.

We have raccoons in Milwaukee too. They're huge in the city! Huge! They are so cute but they can be dangerous.Cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07147148590536843781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-24436577641571856532008-09-10T19:06:00.000+03:002008-09-10T19:06:00.000+03:00Oh WOW thats a nice shot ! Look up videos of the Japanese hornets on youtube...very scary looking.

Yeah, of course we have praying mantis' in NY! I've seen them before, but they're rare. We have some weird insects, and raccoons too. I love raccoons haha but I know they're not good to be around. One tried getting into my bedroom through the window once.DiahRheahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08071862416637046932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-55962174759088115702008-09-10T18:04:00.000+03:002008-09-10T18:04:00.000+03:00Now that we can go outside without it feeling like...Now that we can go outside without it feeling like a furnace! Next week should feel even more like autumn - I hope. Pretty soon I'll be whining about how cold I am.

It is nice to see flowers at the end of summer. I wish we would do something with the (small) areas around our house, but that is a project for the future. Right now the weeds are out of control, because both my husband and my brother-in-law are too lazy to tackle it.

Did you all feel the earthquake Friday night? It scared me to death - we were pretty close to the epicenter, apparently.melusinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04096116965055620488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6574444945294114193.post-72583029663566763112008-09-10T16:28:00.000+03:002008-09-10T16:28:00.000+03:00Pictures of flowers are always beautiful.Pictures of flowers are always beautiful.Phivos Nicolaideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09149376242558001013noreply@blogger.com
