No Arroz con Anything

It's been just over 2 months since we've moved. Greek food is awesome but everywhere you go it's the same. Consistency is great but it's boring. My Puerto Rican blood is craving some Rican food. I've been without arroz con gandules for 2 months. It's like making an Italian go without pasta or a Greek go without bread...

  2. I, too, loved Greek food but eventually longed for some non-Greek. I did have some Thai soup at a Chinese restaurant once. LOL. If they'd said 'Asian' it would have made sense.

    I sympathise.

  3. If you haven't already heard of it, Kosmas Delicatessen on Vas. Iraklion (just off Aristotelous Square) has tons of ethnic ingredients. I don't know if they have exactly what you need for that particular recipe, but they have a lot.

  5. Hey Pumpkin,
the blood IS thinning and so am I!! I opened some boxes and found some of my Goya-sazon and gandules!! Now I just need time to cook!!!!

    Syd,
I know, the ethnic food here some how are "greekified" (my word). We went to a "Mexican" restaurant in Thessaloniki and I knew it would be horrible, I just wasn't prepared for HOW terrible it was!! Everything is worth a try.

    Mel,
Thanks! I have heard of Kosmos, but I haven't been there yet. I have also heard that the AB Vasolopoulos (????) near IKEA has a lot of ingredients that are hard to find. I have yet to explore. I'll invite you over as soon as I can!

    Lis,

Mi querida! Please keep on eating that rice for me! Please have some Jalepeno Loco for me!!
    I miss you!!

  6. You know, I've seen this post a bunch of times and it didn't register that your part Puerto Rican. What a dork, I am!

In any case, you'd definitely know what mafongo is. That's one of my favorite things, but of course I haven't had it in ages. Wah!

  7. Kat,
Yes, I'm half Rican. I'm having cilantro withdrawal. I know that it can be found here, but I haven't had the time to look for it. Also, I swear that I packed seeds and I still haven't found them!!! Mofongo is awesome, I agree. I think that it'd be a little difficult to find a plantain here though, although I will search high and low!! If you ever make it here I'll try to cook something up for you!
