Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Today we had a full day of celebration. The kids were so excited to get dressed in their costumes that from the minute they finished their breakfast they wore costumes them in anticipation of the Halloween party that we were going to.

At the party we were offered spooky cupcakes...

Alexandra chose this one.

There were princesses and fairies...

and games were played.

At home the kids played trick or treat with me, knocking on the door for candy.

And then, I hid candy throughout the yard for our annual Halloween candy hunt since trick or treating at your own door can get boring.

Halloween baskets full of candy and happy, tired children.

We ended our day by watching Halloween movies and coloring pumpkin pictures since we didn't find any to carve this year. We had a wonderful Halloween!

  2. Angela,

Double Yeah, for Halloween! We had a lot of fun this year. I agree, the kids make it so much more fun...although, you can't take them to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is where I would have been if I were home!!!
Frankie's costume was adorable. I'm so glad that you enjoyed yourselves.

    Take care...:)

    Phivos...THANK YOU!!!!!

  4. The children look great in their costumes and I'm glad that they had a party to attend. It would be fun for them to experience Halloween in your hometown and get to trick/treat around your old neighborhood, but I applaud your efforts in trying to recreate it there. We Americans do go all out for the holiday, don't we? I had a steady stream of trick/treaters last night, mostly just little ones whose parents waited out on the street. We went through many, many bags of mini snickers and almond joys...of course, I did eat my share.
At the party I went to last night, best costume prize went to a group dressed as an "El Chupacabra" and dead goats. I didn't know what a chupacabra was until they told me, but it was a very creepy get up.(supposedly the story originated in Puerto Rico, have you ever heard of it?) Some of the costumes would pretty much scare the pants off little children, but it was a party for the "grown ups" after all trick/treaters made their rounds. I wimped out and only dressed up as a mummy.

  5. Teacher Dude,

Thank you, we did have a great time. I hope that you were able to celebrate too...
    Happy Halloween!
    & Have a nice week...

Biddy...I'm going straight to El Chupacabra! haha Of course I know el Chupacabra. I was in PR in 1999 and I was scaring myself awake with the myth because my family lives in the countryside, lots of vegetation, no screens on the windows and goats on a farm across the street! I think that the costume sounds gruesome but I'd love to have seen it! Very original.

I think a mummy sounds lovely actually, it would probably scare Alexandra...she wasn't hip with any scary masks or costumes.

Thank you, the kids had a lot of fun. But, they did ask if we could go back to Milwaukee for Halloween next year because they do remember trick or treating. Hmmmm...don't know if I can pull that one off!
    Have a great week Biddy!

  6. El Chupacabra in PR...Yikes, I would have been scared too! I'm not really one of those people who likes the thrill of being scared, so anything even remotely creepy stays in my mind for a while. I can't even make it through a campy horror movie. I could hardly sleep last night because of nightmares about the el Chupacabra group.
I hope you have a wonderful week too!

  8. Happy Halloween Cheryl, I am in Sparti right now, so no costumes- the last few Halloweens i have been living on UMass family housing- so I have tons of children trick or treating!- your children look great!
The best I have done here is send a pumpkin through facebook to my niece in Boston!
As for the goats story, my students from PR would always talk about them! By the way, I have recommended your blog to a friend who is states-side-

  9. mariady2007-

Happy Halloween to you as well. You're lucky to have experienced tons of trick or treaters-it's always so fun to see all of the costumes. As far as only sending a pumpkin through FB, at least it was something:) You celebrated in spirit. It's hard to really feel Halloween when it's not present like it would be back home. We really missed having pumpkins. We had some last year but I didn't get out and look early enough this time around. I know they're available.

Yes, Puerto Ricans, goats and Chupacabras!! Always intriguing conversations. Makes me giggle...

Thank you for the wonderful compliments and recommending my blog. It's very kind of you. Have a wonderful week!!
