It's still raining...

We had a little break filled with sunshine on Friday but it's still raining.

Some updates...

The kids really enjoy their new school. So far, I'm not sure what I think. The kids have been fighting on the bus so I asked the bus driver and the teacher on the bus to separate them. I don't care if they're siblings...it's best not to stick them together on the bus right now. It's been a week since their "separation" and things have gone well. There's an open house this week and I'm looking forward to meeting some other parents. Last year their school was so far away that it was difficult for our kids to get together with other children to play. What I really need is to find playmates for Foti. Since moving here, there's been a shortage of boys his age in our reach so I really hope that he can find some friends at this new school.

Iza has provided the class with a toad and now they're studying frogs and toads. That's pretty cool. Yesterday we caught a baby Balkan Green Lizard (thanks for pointing us in the right direction Syd), and soon it will be off to visit the classroom. I took some pictures last night but they didn't turn out because the flash reflected off of the glass jar that it's in and made things a little blurry. Finally, we are expecting a tortoise to arrive any day now. Iza is extremely excited about that. I think that it will be cool to have a tortoise hanging around here.

Gigi is recovering from an injury. Thursday morning I noticed that she was hopping around and she just wasn't herself.. I took her to the vet and it turns out that the tendons in her front left paw are stressed. It could have been caused by anything but who knows what for sure. So, the vet gave her an injection to ease her pain a little and I've been giving her an anti-inflammatory. The kicker here is the other part of her treatment. I'm supposed to keep her inside either on a leash or locked in a bathroom where she can't jump up on anything ...for a week! Ok, I want to do what's best for Gigi but after putting her on a leash for half a day she stressed herself out by crying and trying to get off the leash. She was so stressed that she made herself sick all over the rug. I put her in the bathroom and I thought that she was going to knock the door down. So, we're letting her recover in our company. She does hang out on the couch more than anything and we're trying to keep the kids from playing with her as much as usual. She seems to be better but only time will tell. She's wormed her way onto my bed these days. I always said that I love her but there's no way that she'll sleep on my bed, well, I'm all talk. How can I refuse her warm little body at my feet?

Friday we put together a new bed for Foti and he won't come out of his room. He loves it. We painted his room last weekend. What colors? Spiderman red and blue. Yes, we took a Spiderman doll to the store and chose the colors that way. Here are some photos from their adventures in painting last weekend....

That's all for today. I hope that everyone is having a great weekend!

  1. Lovely pictures with the kids and the rose too. Shakespeare once said, "A rose by any other name would be a rose and smell as sweet." You kids look like roses!

  3. Iza is totally shaping up into an insect-amphibian-lizard whisperer. I forget if she had any influence over the owl.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with Gigi. My dog managed to do something to his neck this summer (don't know what, I didn't spring for an MRI since he got better with painkillers), and I know it's difficult to keep a pet calm and contained when they don't want to be.

  4. I had a kitten once who fell off the roof ???? she broke her pelvis and had to be kept in a kitty crate for 6 weeks. How insane is that? Same cat, 6 years later got hit by a car which pulverised her pelvis. They put a pin in her hip but the pelvis was left to heal on its own while she was contained in, you guessed it - a kitty crate for six weeks. She lived the next 12 years as an inside cat.

Anyway, I hope Gigi recovers her full glory soon.

I can't believe you painted over that beauteous wallpaper. (wink WINK)

  5. Philip-Thank you! You always have the right thing to say...it's a gift.

Maria-Yes, we had little blue hands and some blue speckled feet. That was about it. They're getting pretty good at helping.

Lulu-You are so right, Iza is all about the animals. Now we have a tortoise-she's in heaven. At first she brought the lizard to class and then returned home with it. We told her that it would be so wonderful for her classmates to experience the lizard too, so she brought it back this morning. So, we've provided the class with a toad and lizard...and soon the tortoise will go for a visit. AND...this afternoon she was trying to catch a SNAKE. That's where I draw the line...I don't know what kind of snake it is. So, she was disappointed but she understood. Oh, and I have a stick -type bug in a jar next to me as I type. She's really something.
I hope that your dog is feeling better. Gigi is actually doing better. I've kept her on the leash a little more than she would have liked, but it's worked. Now she's running like normal...and I can't stop her!

Syd- That poor cat. She had to be going nuts in that crate. I can just imagine a little paw reaching out trying to find the latch to open the door. That's what my cats used to do!
Containing Gigi has been such a challenge. She'll cry for hours if we let her. Like I told Lulu, she's been on the leash and it's helped. She's herself for sure, she's run out the door with my bra...she's definitely feeling better.

BTW...that wasn't wallpaper...they're sheets that the old fart left here. I don't know which could be worse in this case. :)

  8. Hey Christie! There's never a dull moment here...always a work in progress. & Yes, that coffee is waiting for us. We'll get around to it!

John- I used to like painting much more than I do lately. We've never hired anyone...so I've been doing it a long time! But, the feeling of accomplishment is always worth it in the end.
The weather has been nice for the last 2 days...sunny, not too hot and cool at night. The thing that stinks is that everything is completely muddy.
