Flamouri

We have 3 flamouri trees and they're in bloom now. Everywhere you turn in the yard you can smell the sweet smell of the flowers. Also, if you stand under one of the trees you will witness the low "bzzzzzz" of the busy buzzing bees. I'm not sure that I've ever had flamouri tea but I'm going to dry the flowers anyway so that I can try it. I'm a tea drinker and I think that if the tea tastes as good as the flowers smell-I'm going to love it.

  1. Well, that's interesting. In Crete I never heard/saw it called flamouri, only tilio.

  2. It's interesting because I have never heard of it until now and it has such great healing qualities.I only knew it was also called tilio when I was looking for more info on flamouri. I recently found out that it's abundant in France and that it's called "Linden" in English. I can't believe that I've never heard of it before. I'm really excited and have to start drying these flowers!

  3. Yes, I read that today too. We have some linden trees in the village square here - last year I sat under them while they were in bloom and the smell was amazing. They haven't bloomed yet - looks like we're some weeks behind you all. I never saw them in Crete, maybe they need a colder winter or better/deeper soil (Crete suffers badly from erosion due to deforestation chiefly caused by livestock eating the saplings).

Anyway, I'll be clipping some of the flowers off this year for some tilio tea.

  4. Happy clipping! I spent about an hour clipping today and got about 2lbs. of flowers. The kids really got into it too. I decided that if I do an hour a day...for a about a week...I'll have enough for a while and to share. The problem is that Kosta pruned the trees because the branches were all so low...now I wish he wouldn't have cut so much because I think I need a cherry picker to get what I want off of these trees. Anyway, enjoy the flamour/linden/tilio trees when they blossom. The scent is awesome.

Maria, I read your post the other day but didn't have time to comment(kids + husband + dog...) I enjoyed reading about your adventure that day and how you "scored" your tilio. :) Have you tried it yet?
