April Meme: 7 Quirks

Well, I knew that it was only a matter of time before I'd be tagged for a meme. I was tagged by both Kat and Mel for this, my first meme. Since I've been double tagged I'm more than happy to participate.

These are the rules:

1. When tagged, place the name and URL of the tagger on your post
2. Post the rules
3. Write 7 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself
4. Name 7 of your favorite blogs
5. Send an email/comment on their blog letting them know they have been tagged

7 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself

1. I don't like to eat off of plastic/plates cups. (like kid stuff) I will, but I just don't like it. Can't explain it & it drives my husband nuts. I'll ask him to get me a drink and if he brings it in a plastic cup I cringe. I think that he does it just to annoy me. (btw-he pointed this quirk out for me)
2. I love kitchen gadgets, can't have enough of them. Currently, I'm looking for a new lemon zester & also a garlic press.
3. I'm very particular about my kitchen utensils/gadgets. For instance, a bread knife is for cutting bread-please don't cut meat or tomatoes with it. I especially don't like when people take it out in the yard to cut horta!
4. I talk a lot and I talk fast. I know it, I try to control it- but I can't.
5. I could eat rice & beans every day.
6. I love Prince. I think that he's a genius.
7. I can't leave the house without wearing lipstick.

Name 7 of your favorite blogs

1. An American in Athens (tagged me)
2. Mel's Diner (tagged me)
3. Whatever is on my mind today
4. Exotic/Mundane
5. Tastes like Home-Mediterranean Cooking in Alaska
6. Mimi on the Breach
7. Livin' La Vida Pedraza

Just a few of my regular stops in the blogosphere. If I tagged you-don't feel obligated to participate. I'll still love your stuff!

  1. Aww, Cheryl, that's so nice of you - I'm glad you like my blog and yours is definitely one of my regular stops (as are Kat's and Mel's - both great writers).

As for plastic dishware - hate it, it's awful. But there is something plastic that I love beyond belief and that is my plastic lemon juicer that I bought in the gadget section of a little supermarket on the island. It is a plastic reamer on top of a plastic cut, and I've never found anything made out of natural materials that does the job nearly as well. I've had to buy them for all my friends in the US!

Lemon zesters - not so much. Too awkward to use and requires pressing down too hard. On the otherhand, a small-holed microplane grater is perfect for zesting lemons. It works like magic, and is also the best thing for grating hard cheeses.

Anyone who can eat rice & beans everyday is ok in my book - especially if they also talk too fast!!

  2. Ummmm ... rice and beans. I'm vegetarian, so I'm all about rice and beans!

Thanks for the tag! I'll do the meme this week.

  3. I second the microplane suggestion. Love my microplane.

Thanks for giving me the nod, that's nice.

  4. LOL at "I especially don't like when people take it out in the yard to cut horta!"

We have a few old kitchen knives that get used for horta and of course they stay out in the garage in between horta expeditions. I think my head would explode if anyone took one of my nice sharp knives outside for that!

  5. Laurie, you make me laugh! Yeah, the plastic juicers...I have 2 here. They do work quite well!
I'm currently using a microplane grater but I don't like the one that I have so maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled for a better one.

Mimi- Great! I can't wait to read it...:)

    Syd-You're welcome.

Lulu-Welcome to the blog! I checked yours out briefly and I already love it. I do have "assigned" knives for that sort of thing but sometimes people just don't ask. My kitchen scissors are abused also...I think that I will be forced hide them!

  6. Hi Cheryl!

Thanks for checking out our family's website and supporting my growing need to "b*tch & blog". Pretty soon we'll have a beautiful baby on our hands then I'll forget about all the stuff I've been complaining about because it will all be worth it in the end! :)

    Cheers,

  7. Awww, I love plastic kids stuff. More for the colorful characters on it than actually using, it, I guess, but I would totally use a plastic Winnie the Pooh plate if I had one.

I love kitchen gadgets, but I don't know what half of them are for! It started when some friends of mine gave me a parmesan grater.

I'm particular about kitchen utensil usage too, especially since my husband seems to have no boundaries with such things.

  8. Julie, You're welcome... I think that you're really funny. It's also quite normal to bitch & blog given the state that your in! Take care!

Mel, I think that we have an extra Winnie the Pooh plate that we haven't been using! :)
I think that my husband is pretty bad with the kitchen stuff too. When something's missing I always check the yard & then ask. Ugh.
