Colors of the Sunrise

Sunrise shots taken from the same place but  on two different mornings.
I love the contrast of colors.
This photo was taken at sunrise on November 2, 2010. I love the rose & pink hues.

This photo was taken at sunrise on November 9, 2010. Beautiful.

At sunrise everything is luminous but not clear. It is those we live with and love and should know who elude us. You can love completely without completely understanding.

Kalo Mina/Καλό μήνα

February started out with a spectacular sunrise from my corner of Greece. We have so many spectacular sunrises and I never tire of photographing or sharing them. I took a moment to snap these photos this morning while in the midst of serving breakfast, packing lunches and laying clothes out for the day. Today started out ok, although I forgot to send Foti's pillow & blanket to school with him...but I can always drop that off later since nap time isn't until the afternoon. But all is well nevertheless.

Here's a photo of Mount Olympus waiting for the sun's warmth. I absolutely love the clouds.

This photo was taken from the opposite side of my house. The clouds are reflecting the pink hues of the sunrise to the from the east. Cool and dark with a touch of pink, beautiful.

Now here's a  photo that I took last night at sunset. It was a windy and cool, not cold. I loved the dramatic look of the clouds looming over Mt. Olympus so as I was driving to the bakery I couldn't resist stopping to snap a few shots.

Another view from the beach just before sunset last night. Amazing, breathtaking and calming...It was nice for me to step away and take a break, even if only for a few minutes. I hope that you enjoy the photos.

Sweet Surprise

Yesterday as I was reading a few of my favorite blogs I stumbled upon a sweet surprise. Ivy  from Kopiaste..to Greek Hospitality passed an award in my direction and I have to say I'm completely, utterly flattered by her gesture. Ivy is an amazing blogger, from fantastic recipes coupled with historic information about the recipes and great photos taken from her travels, her blog is an invaluable resource to foodies and bloggers worldwide. If you haven't visited her site yet I suggest that you do as it's always a pleasure to read. Thank you Ivy, you're an inspiration and I'm so happy that we've become friends. I hope to meet you one day, whether it be in Athens, Thessaloniki or somewhere in between. Thank you.

In lieu of passing on the award I'll mention a few of my favorite blog friends and their fabulous blogs/sites...

Just a few to name a few. I wish everyone a great month, καλό μήνα and a fantastic week. I'll leave you with a video from another favorite friend, Damián Lértora .
Enjoy!

Sunrise

Thursday afternoon Maria posted a photo of the snow covered mountains above Hania. I mentioned that, ironically, I had taken a photo of Mt. Olympus at sunrise for the same reason, the snow.  She said that she would like to see it, so here are some photos that I snapped at sunrise Thursday morning.

Sunrise

The early morning glow reveals Mt. Olympus and all of her snow covered glory. This morning the kids squealed with excitement when they noticed the snow.

It's been over a week since my last post! I usually don't like to have that much time lapse between postings but I've been very busy. Kosta was in Wisconsin for the whole month of October and there's a lot of work to catch up on. Also, the first week that he was back I was very sick so he had to step in and help. I have perfect timing, don't I?

That weekend he left to visit his family and later in the week he had to travel to Athens to finally have the emissions tested on our car that we imported over a year ago. So, he was gone for another three days so I've been on my own a lot.

Of the more important things that needed to be done last week were having our diesel delivered so that we could finally have real heat in the house and we had to have the property tilled(freza) since it rained most of the month of September and it didn't get done then. So, here are some photos from last week...
Freshly tilled soil-I always love how the earth looks just after this is done.

Gigi really enjoys the fluffy soil after it's been tilled. She rolls in it! (drives me over the edge!) But, it makes her happy. Dirty dog! :)

The man that was tilling our soil made an amazing discovery in the olive trees...a beehive! The bees must work very fast because I was just back in the trees picking olives about one month ago and this wasn't there. It's impressive isn't it? The best part is that now we have our own honey!

Here's a closer look at the beehive. I didn't want to get too close as I'm sure that most of you understand!

Our neighbor has the experience and equipment to handle bees so he said that he would help us remove this hive. We're probably going to set up our own boxes(is that what they're called?) so that we don't destroy the colony. Bees are disappearing rapidly and we'd like to do our little part in keeping them around. This beehive is just amazing and it's a great experience for the kids to see them at work, priceless experience.

Here's a photo of Gigi basking in the dirt, like a little piggy.

It rained a few days later and Gigi decided to really act like a little piggy and she almost turned black. She had more burs on her than normal on this day also. So, we've decided that Gigi isn't allowed outside without a leash this winter. I can't bathe her everyday. I don't like it and she definitely doesn't like it so we'll see how this works out.

I'll leave you with a photo of a beautiful sunrise that I captured. Have a great week!
